We may be biased but we think our residents at Kings Langley have a few golden nuggets of wisdom to share with the next generation.
With so much life experience we asked a few of our residents what advice they would give to their younger self, knowing what they know now, and here’s what they had to say:
Dorothy Schoon
“I’d tell myself to be more mature and not worry about my problems. I’m a calmer person now than I was when I was young. More mature, of course. That makes a lot of difference. Able to deal with problems easier, than when you were younger.”
Heather Humphrey
“Hang on to your faith. God will look after you. Do not control your children’s lives. They don’t need it. You might think they do, but they don’t need it. They have to find out themselves what goes wrong and how they can fix it.”
Peter Schoon
“I think that it’s very important not to stand still, but to grow in your love for the Lord and also in your love for your wife.”
Graham Munro
“I wish that I’d studied harder and been a better student. I wish that I’d been able to develop a stronger self-confidence and belief in myself.”
Margaret Childs
“The best advice is to listen to other people’s advice. I have a list of proverbs which I have given to my grandchildren. I think a lot of those proverbs are worth listening to. ‘If you always do what you always did, you’ll always get what you always got.’ And ‘No matter where you go or what you do, always paddle your own canoe.’ It means not to follow other people, to think carefully before you do anything. I’m just grateful, really. I had a good family. We had a lot of good times and it’s still happening, so I’m still grateful.”
Do you have any golden nuggets of your own? We’d love to hear them. Share them with us on our social media channels.
