On Monday October 10th, a group of intrepid adventurers from our independent village at Kings Langley took the Riverboat Postman cruise along the Hawkesbury River. The Hawkesbury Mail Boat is a working boat which delivers mail and other supplies to the upriver settlements from the Brooklyn Bridge. The Riverboat Mail Boat has been running non stop from 1910 and the skippers are locals who have lived in the area their whole lives.
Our residents left early in our comfy Village bus to drive along the M1 to Brooklyn for the Cruise with Resident Chair Heather Humfrey in the drivers seat.
The onboard narrative covered many interesting and historical facts for our residents as the Hawkesbury River is a real gem and an important part of the Indigenous and Colonial history of Australia.
Our group were treated to snacks including the cruise’s famous Anzac biscuits made to a traditional recipe, tea and coffee then a handsome ploughman’s lunch. During the 3 hour trip, the boat meandered among riverside villages and showed much scenic beauty.
The residents all agreed that the historic Hawkesbury River Postman Cruise was the perfect day trip out together as all had a terrific time and plan to book it again.
